General facts about the social card of the members of Ukrainian trade unions

Social Card - social protection for the labour of man

As of March 2009 the Trade Union Federation of Ukraine begins the stage-by-stage introduction of the personalised multifunctional social trade union membership ID card.
This TFU initiative is a first step towards creating an active social security system for labourers.
Social Card - a way to consolidating the trade union movement

The Social Card serves as the basis for the development of a close dialogue between members of trade unions.
It strengthens the unity and inside integrity of the 10 million members of our regional and sector unions in the time of crisis.
Positive feedback

The Social Card has obtained feedback from a whole range of trade unions, which can be seen from the decision of the TFU Presidium of 11 February 2009.
The Social Card serves as identification for members of TFU trade unions. Since the Trade Union Federation of Ukraine is a member of the International Trade Union Confederation and of the ILO the Social Card is able to provide guarantees for members of trade unions forming part of TFU both within the territory of Ukraine and abroad.
What is the Social Card?

It is a plastic card designed with the latest technology and offering trade union members a number of advantages.
In particular apart from informational functions the Social Card also carries out the functions of medical servicing, social insurance from handicap at the workplace and forced unemployment.
Card owner – bonus owner

The TFU personalised social ID card provides its owner with the access to a system of bonuses and financial paybacks. The TFU Social Card provides the opportunity to obtain discounts in chains of drug stores, retail, supermarkets, petrol stations etc.
Introduction of the Card

The Card shall be introduced in three stages:

First stage
The Social Card performs a social role. It serves as identification for members of trade unions, which form part of the TFU, as well as identification for persons who are entitled to social guarantees and benefits. The Social Card provides discounts in TFU healh resorts and sanaoria – Ukrprofzdravniza and Ukrproftour and in the School of Olympic reserve. A packet of legal aid is also provided.

Second stage
Providing bonuses and discounts in retail chains. Legal assistance, notaries' services and access to Arbitration Tribunals.

Third stage
Providing social guarantees and benefits as to the passing of financial values to personal accounts of trade union members. Transport service benefits.
Tasks of the Social Card
- Increasing the activeness of trade union members and of the trade union movement in general
- Uniting trade union members into a strong all-Ukrainian interregional team, whse opinions are valued both by the employers and the Government.
- Amelliorating communications inside the trade union movement, bettering the process of feedback and interaction among primary organisations, sectoral trade unions and the Trade Union Federation of Ukraine.
- Increasing the amount of benefits, discounts and other services within the social securi system of trade union members.
- Strengthening the value of trade union membership, as a result of which new young and active trade union members shall emerge.
- Reaching an international level of interaction between trade unions and their members in matters, concerning job seeking, protection of social rights and employment.
- Expanding of legal protection, access to notaries and Arbitration Tribunals.
